Welcome to the Copyright Alliance Blog!
Monday, September 10th, 2007 by Patrick RossWell, it's been almost four months since we launched the Copyright Alliance. We've added new members, seen our grassroots list grow, and felt the buzz that comes with being recognized as a constructive part of the debate. But let's face it, a big part of the copyright debate today is held online. Let's also admit that most of those voices — reflecting their lack of background in the creation of valued copyrighted works and viewing technology as a tool to enable them to do anything they want — have not been very friendly to copyright or the creators who benefit from them.
There are friendly voices out there. My former colleages at PFF's IPCentral come to mind, as do the good folks at the Institute for Policy Innovation. I aim to have this blog add to that, not just with writings from me, but with writings from members, allies and academics. We'll also be engaging in Q&A with creators, to let them have their own voice, a voice not often found online.
One final note — this blog will aim to be as positive as possible. There will be times where we will need to be critical of another's argument in order to clarify a debate, but we will be taking the high ground and not succumbing to "online disinhibition effect." If I fall short of this goal, please call me on it.
[This entry is the first to be written for this site, but won't be visible for a month. This blog is going live October 11th, timed with our first ever Copyright Alliance EXPOnential, but we're doing entries beforehand to have some writings "in the can" at launch.]
