Deal Reached on Digital Music Compensation

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 by Patrick Ross

Anyone out there been following the Copyright Royalty Board proceeding on setting rates for digital music services? I have, and it’s enough to make your head hurt. It came up during the panel I was on last week at the Americana Music Conference. Well, it turns out some of the rates in question have been settled through negotiation by the major parties involved. That’s always better than a rate court decision that leaves winners and losers.

Congrats to all of those involved. Now we’ll see what happens with the services that weren’t resolved. The CRB has promised to set rates no later than October 2nd.
