Kudos to the White House for posting hundreds and hundreds of comments online in response to the call by Victoria Espinel, the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, for guidance on how to improve enforcement of IP rights. You can see them here.
I’d direct your attention to our filing, because even though we already have our filing on our site, the one on the White House web site includes the letter to President Obama and Vice President Biden from more than 11,000 artists and creators across the United States. (Warning, it’s a pretty large PDF.)
Also note the hundreds and hundreds of filings from individual photographers, songwriters, novelists and other creators who told their personal stories. Many hundreds of them were kind enough to mention the Copyright Alliance.
Also note none of the submissions from artists were form letters. I saw two form letters from copyright opponents making somewhat frequent appearances, both telling a White House official mandated to improve IP enforcement to, essentially, do less enforcement. Hmm.
That the time and effort to craft personal submissions came from artists and creators is hardly surprising, given they have far more at stake in the debate than those who wish to access their works without permission or compensation.
We previously posted a summary and thumbnail description of several filings in the proceeding.
The next step is for Ms. Espinel and her (short-staffed) team to craft a national plan based on these comments. She has a lot of positive suggestions and stories to work with.

Thanks for the presearveation of many artist work or artifact of hard work and determination to pursue our individual dream before it could be taken from us.
We are willing to share our knowledge if we are given the chance tobuild on our dreams. this is a means of encouragement and survival in its first stage and the only legacy left to our generation with a hand print of our ancestors to reap the benifit and encourage our young that hardwork breathes contentment

The time I spent in writing my materials, putting music to my songs and then recording them was time consuming and very expensive. Recorded in 2009 I have yet to receive a single penny from my work which put me into the Business of Bankruptcy.
Going as far back as 1964 when my Band recorded and released a 14 Track LP which had been copied numerous times, I have yet to receive a dime. Even though the 4 originals on the tunes were lyrically written by our Manager Joseph Shefsky, the biggest seller ‘Moving Out” from that recording has yet to pay me anything. I need someone with the political and knowledgeable savvy to help me. I am now 69 years of age and can use every dollar owed me.

[...] As we noted at the time, yesterday was first-of-its-kind comprehensive strategic intellectual property enforcement plan, prepared by a White House team in the Obama Administration led by U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Victoria Espinel. It’s a pretty broad report, and lots of people are pouring through it, but we were pleased to be a part of it by submitting our own comprehensive comments, and playing a role in hundreds of individual artists and creators also submitting comments.
