Artists Speak Out: You HAVE to be famous in order to succeed…

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 by admin

Novelist Aline deWinter recently wrote the Obama Administration noting that “frequently the artist must trade money for exposure, especially in the beginning, and make the least amount of income in the chain of bringing work before an audience.” She then says that the arts might possibly be the only field in which you HAVE to be famous in order to succeed and earn a living. Thus, she says “to have your work undermined by pirates and websavvy teenagers who think everything should be free is death knell for artists, especially in the USA that, unlike European nations, does not support the arts”

Here is her submission to the White House Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator.
