The Future of Audio

Today, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing on “The Future of Audio.”  The hearing was called to “examine how advances in communications services and consumer electronics equipment are affecting the distribution and consumption of audio content.  Further background on the hearing can be found here.

A number of Copyright Alliance members and friends will testify at the hearing, sharing their diverse perspectives on the future of audio, including the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and representatives of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp and Emmis Communications.

Ben Allison, a Bassist and Composer, and Governor of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) was the only artist invited to testify.

Singer/songwriter and member of the bands Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, David Lowery sent his well regarded piece “Meet the New Boss, Worse than the Old Boss?” to the Hill in conjunction with today’s hearing.

Also scheduled to participate in the hearing are representatives from Pandora, CTIA, and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
