In Case You Missed It: the Impact of Intellectual Property Theft

This week, the Congressional Joint Economic Committee released a report titled The Impact of Intellectual Property Theft on the Economy. The report outlines the positive contributions the IP community makes on the US economy as well as the costly impact of IP theft, including lost revenues as well as the cost incurred in identifying infringement and enforcing IP rights.

Of particular note, the report highlights the added difficulties for independent artists and creators, who are primarily self-employed or own small businesses, and “are unlikely to have the financial resources to protect themselves from IP theft, or to pursue enforcement actions when facing losses.”
