On Wednesday April 23, the Global IP Center of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will honor musician, business school lecturer, and artist advocate David Lowery with the IP Champions Award for his work to promote consumer awareness of IP issues. On Wednesday, April 23, the U.S. Copyright Office will feature the Copyright Alliance for the third time in its yearly World IP Day Celebration. This year’s focus is on Movies: A Global Passion to emphasize the role of IP in the creation and distribution of films. This event will take place at 1:45 pm at the Coolidge Auditorium in the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. This event is free and open to the public. Yesterday, the Copyright Alliance filed an amicus brief before the Second Circuit in the Google Books case (Authors Guild v. Google), in support of Authors’ Guild. The Copyright Alliance believes the undisputed gains made possible by mass digitization can and should be attained without sacrificing the public benefit inherent to the creation and dissemination of works that copyright encourages.
